“Funky Blues” was commissioned by the Scottish Brass Band Association in 2021 to provide new music for Youth Bands. The music follows the structure of the 12-bar blues and has a cool and syncopated theme which is passed round many players in the band. Following the initial presentation of the theme there are opportunities for a number of players to shine in some solo passages before the music modulates with a final rendition of the theme.
