Umoya - Brass Band
Umoya is an exciting composition written for Brass Band and Voices that celebrates the spirit, vibrant energy, and far-reaching cultural influence of African music across the globe.
At the heart of the work is the traditional Zulu song 'Sin njay njay njay' (pronounced sin jay jay jay). The composition fuses the sound of the brass band with 3-part vocal singing, bringing spirit and uplifting voices to the stage.
Propelled by exciting, driving rhythms and dynamic syncopation, Umoya captures a profound sense of joy, hope, and togetherness and celebrates the lasting impact African musical traditions have made throughout the world.
Feel free to tailor the vocal parts to your ensemble's needs/resources —whether that means singing just the melody, two-part harmony, or all three parts. You can feature singing band members, bring in guest vocalists, or use a mix of both!
